Checking Out Books for the 1st Time

Kindergarteners who are experiencing checking out books for the 1st time will receive this lesson. By the end students will be able to locate different types of books such as fiction, picture books, or non-fiction books. Students will also be able to use their library card at the circulation desk for the first time.

First, students will hear a story time of Pete the Cat Checks Out the Library.

The library will model how to browse the library by showing things like book buckets, non-fiction, and fiction books. The librarian will highlight age appropriate books for kindergarteners. The librarian will model how to take their library card to the circulation desk and check out. At the end the students will receive a bookmark.
